New Family to Utah looking for some real advice...
Feb 18th, 2010 at 11:51pm

Hello all,

We are new to the forum, and are fairly new to Utah as well.

I would like to reach out to the members of this forum and ask for a little help, because we are new to the site an the area we are looking to enjoy the natural beauty of our state and the pools it provides. But because we have not a clue (expect a few that we've seen/pictures of online) where to go for nice pools (for a family, clean, fun, scenically beautiful, etc) to choose from that were listed (only 7-8 listed). We live in the Farmington Area so it would be best for us to find something fairly close (a few hours at the most if it's really worth the drive) so we can make a day out of it, having fun along the way maybe site seeing or geocaching (looking for advice here as well).

I understand that a lot (or all) of what I'm asking normally is  somewhat out of the norm or a no no, but we really are in need of some help so I can get my family out and see this unbelievable state so I'm looking for some understanding and consideration/compassion.

We are from the mountains in CO and have moved a few years back to UT, we started growing our family 6 days after we moved here, really no joke. So the past couple of years we have had to wait until they grew up a little before we could go back out in the back country exploring/teaching. We finally got to do a little right before winter and the kids were totally digging it, then winter hit and we stopped.
Now that our boys are growing into little people, it's really important to me to start teaching the about being in the back country and the respectability we all have to help leave it better then we found it, and looking/traveling enjoying hot springs are a great intro to mother earths grandness!!

Our family has had a really hard 2009 so I'm hoping this will help bring our family closer together, being able to spend one day a week/weekend doing something truly that is enjoyable for all, instead of just a few.

Thanks!

Ogden Hot Springs,This spring is located right off the Ogden Canyon road. These pools are man made and are fed by a hose from a concrete collection system. The water is extremely hot, so plan on taking a bucket so you can scoop cold water out of the river. The river is located right by the spring. Families and children frequent the springs, so skinny dippers be aware. Spring and summer are very popular, so plan on a crowd. Parking is available right off the canyon road, but its very small and can only accommodate a small number of cars.  If you plan on visiting this location in the winter months use caution as you make your way to the springs.  On one visit the trail was solid ice and in some places it would be a 15 foot drop to the river below.

You are living in rockhound heaven, do some googles and buy some guide books and we know kids love looking for rocks, rock tumblers and a tile saw[lapidary] will let you expand the rockhounding experience.

Ghosttowns, Pony Express trail, Mormon History, hot springs, off-roading, what are you waiting for?
